The museum was opened in 1970 in the house of the family of Decembrist S. Trubetskoy. The exposition of the museum tells about life of Decembrists in East Siberia during 1826-1856. The museum keeps original things of Trubetskoy family: furniture, embroideries of princess Y.I. Trubetskaya, paintings of her daughter, chandeliers, books, musical compositions. In 1856 after 30 years’ exile the Decembrists were granted amnesty. Only 19 out of the 121 exiled survived and 16 of them returned to the western part of the country.

Museum of S.G. Volkonskiy
The house of S. Volkonskiy was built in 1839 in the village Ourik of Irkutsk Region. In 1846 the Volkonskiy family bought a land plot in Irkutsk and removed the house from village Ourik to Irkutsk. The house of S.G. Volkonskiy became the center of Irkutsk cultural life. Concerts, masquerades, literature, theatre and music evenings used to take place there. The Volkonskiy family spent 17 years in this house. In 1985 after restoration the house of S.G. Volkonskiy became a museum and received first visitors. This museum is one of the leading country’s museums telling about the history of Decembrists in Russia. The museum keeps original things of the Volkonskiy family and other Decembrists.
